Let’s Talk Real!
This week, I’ve really been feeling the weight of burnout. And to give you a clear picture, there’s been a lot going on.
In just the past few weeks, I’ve been juggling end‑of‑year testing for my kids, a high school graduation in the family, a weekend at a family resort, planning my son’s 9th birthday party, running our family business, and launching this blog. My plate has been overflowing.
I wanted to write this from a real place, not as a how‑to guide, but more of a “here’s what life looks like for me right now” post. Because if you’re a homeschool mom, an entrepreneur, or just someone trying to keep it all together, I know you’ll get it.
Slowing Down and Prioritizing Rest
With so many things happening at once, I’ve decided to take a short break from full homeschool lessons for the next month. The boys are starting swim lessons soon and have weekly music classes, which naturally creates a lighter rhythm for us.
I’ll use this season to plan our next homeschool year and give more focused time to our business, especially as I work on growing this blog for other working homeschool moms like you.
Honestly, I’m looking forward to getting past my son’s birthday and intentionally not planning anything new for a few weeks. I need space to catch up on my own reading, pour energy into our business, and enjoy slow evenings at the park with the kids.
We’ll still have our regular activities like jiu‑jitsu and music, but outside of that, I want to slow down—take morning walks, rest during the hot Florida afternoons, and simply be present.
Let’s Redefine Balance
When we talk about balance, we need to break the myth that it means doing everything in equal parts all the time. That’s not real life, and it’s definitely not real life for a homeschooling mom entrepreneur.
So if this week you didn’t get much work done, or the laundry is still sitting in baskets, or you didn’t carve out time for yourself—that’s okay. You’re not failing at balance.
Sometimes balance looks like 50% family, 25% business, 25% self‑care, and maybe only 10% housework. Other times, those percentages shift completely. That’s the reality of balance: not equal time for everything, but intentional time for what needs you most in the moment.
A Mindset Shift That Changed Everything
One of my favorite voices to learn from is Mel Robbins. She shares mindset shifts and real‑life advice that stick. One of her reminders that I love is:
“Shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance.”
That thought has stayed with me. When we shift our focus, we stop believing we’re constantly falling behind and start prioritizing what truly matters. Instead of thinking, I don’t have enough time, we begin to ask, What matters most right now?
That shift is freeing. It’s how I’ve been finding peace in the middle of all the chaos lately.
Giving Myself Permission to Slow Down
I also want to be transparent—I’ve been a procrastinator my whole life. It’s something I’ve had to work through intentionally. But I’ve learned that if I want to be the mom I dream of being and the business owner I want to become, I can’t keep putting everything off.
Slowing down doesn’t mean giving up. For me, it means choosing the most important things and letting the rest wait. Right now, I know exactly why I’ve been feeling burnt out, so I’m shifting my priorities and giving myself permission to take the break I need.
Let’s stop chasing perfect balance and start giving ourselves the grace to move with our seasons. That’s where the real freedom is.
