Can You Homeschool and Run a Business? Here’s How I Make It Work
Let’s talk about homeschooling while also working from home. This is a conversation I wish more people were having—because if you’re anything like me, you’re not just juggling two jobs. You’re living in the daily overlap of motherhood, business, and home education.
How It Started: Launching Our Business During the Pandemic
In 2021, just as things were starting to reopen after the pandemic, my husband and I launched a service-based business. Before that, we were both working in landscaping for another company. But we took a leap of faith and started our own landscaping and yard drainage business—putting a strong focus on drainage systems.
I took on the entire admin side of the business: marketing, social media, SEO, bookkeeping, scheduling, licensing, and answering every phone call and email. Basically, I became the engine behind our visibility online and the voice behind our business. And I had to learn everything from scratch, how to rank on Google, how YouTube SEO works, how to market ourselves with zero budget while caring for our two boys, who were just four and five at the time.
It was survival mode every single day.
Why We Chose Homeschooling
Fast forward a couple of years, and our lives shifted again. My oldest son, who has ADHD, was struggling deeply in school. I felt a strong pull to bring him home. I knew I couldn’t give him the support he needed while running full-speed in our business. Something had to change.
I stepped back from parts of the business, and my husband picked up more of the load, both in the field and on the phones. We had to hit pause on big plans and future expansions. Instead, we focused on providing excellent service, staying consistent with our online presence, and taking care of the clients already on our schedule. By God’s grace, that consistency paid off. Our business stayed booked and steady.
Rediscovering My Purpose (and My Voice)
Now, almost two years into homeschooling, I know without a doubt that this is what I’m meant to be doing. Being present for my kids, guiding them through their learning, and growing alongside them has changed everything for them and for me.
Somewhere in this journey, something else began to grow: my voice. I started this blog to document what it really looks like to be a homeschool mom entrepreneur navigating motherhood, business, and learning all under one roof.
I also started creating Amazon Shoppable Videos through the Amazon Influencer Program. To my surprise, I actually enjoy it. I get to share the products that make my life easier and support other moms who are looking for practical, real-life solutions.
This space—this blog—isn’t about pretending to have it all together. It’s about keeping it real. It’s for the moms trying to build something meaningful while raising kids. If you’re wondering how it’s possible to homeschool and work from home at the same time, I see you. I am you. And I want you to know that yes, it’s absolutely possible.
What Helps Me Balance It All
1. Time Blocking
Time blocking has changed everything for me. I create intentional time slots for:
- Homeschool lessons
- Admin and marketing tasks
- Amazon content creation
- Family time and outings
I leave room for flexibility because with young kids, things rarely go perfectly. But having a basic framework keeps me focused and grounded.
2. Scheduling Everything
I’ve learned the hard way: if it’s not scheduled, it doesn’t happen.
Now I schedule:
- Homeschool co-op meetups
- Park days
- Work blocks
- Family time
- Even rest
I used to try to wing it, but that left me burned out, distracted, and always behind. Scheduling gave me back a sense of control—and helped me be more present.
3. Outsourcing Where I Can
This one was a game-changer. I started outsourcing anything I didn’t absolutely need to do myself.
- Groceries: I order online and get delivery because grocery runs with little ones (and a to-do list a mile long) just aren’t worth the stress.
- Website Management: We now work with a company that helps with backend SEO and keeping our site running smoothly.
- Bookkeeping: I finally hired a quarterly bookkeeper instead of trying to juggle all our business finances alone.
And just as important I lean on my support system.
My mom helps however she can, whether that’s watching the kids during my work blocks, helping with household cleaning or meals, or even stepping in to teach Spanish lessons soon. It’s not always consistent or planned, but when that support is there, I receive it with so much gratitude.
Outsourcing and accepting help has freed up so much mental energy. It allows me to be more present during homeschool, get content up for my Amazon videos, and just breathe a little deeper through the chaos.
Final Words for the Mama in the Middle of It All
If you feel torn between where you are and where you want to be listen to that. You don’t need to have a perfect plan. Just take the next right step. Shift one thing. Adjust what you can.
I’m not doing it perfectly, but I’m doing it—and you can too.
You’re not alone in this. If you’re building a business, homeschooling your kids, or simply trying to make both work together, this blog is for you. I’m sharing everything I learn along the way—from one intentional mama to another.
